Burps, Gas, & Tears; Neck and Shoulder Pains

 Dr Joe ... wth?!!!

Neck and Shoulder Pains During Meditation

Ever since I started this run of meditations, I have been experiencing neck and shoulder pains during the meditations. I am mentioning it now because I am now certain that the pains only arise during mediations.  As soon as I go back into "normal" life, it disappears so completely that I forget about it totally ... till the next meditation.

What is going on?  Obviously it is related to the mediations.  But why?

addendum: 14 Mar 2025

As of 12 Mar 2025, I notice that for the first time, the neck and shoulder pains either are not there during meditations, or are greatly decreased.

Burping

Shortly after starting this rounds of meditation practice, I noticed that I had little burps at some points in the meditation.  But I didn't give it much thought.

Then I noticed that not only did they continue in subsequent meditations, but little farts started happening.

And then during this morning's meditation (between 3:30 - 6:30am) ... the burps really BURPED. Lots of it, more of it, and they were more viseral and louder.

What is happening?????

Tears

addendeum: 14 Mar 2025

I forgot to mention the tears!  Almost from day 1, I almost always had tears leaking out.  Sometimes it was related to something I was thinking or an (elevated) emotion I was feeling.  But over time, when the tears continued to leak, and I could not see any connection with what I was thinking/feeling at the point, I really got intrigued.

What is with all these... what are they ... a cleaning out?

As of this day (14/3/25), the leaking tears have decreased.  Every now and then I find a tear leaking out and running down.  But certainly not as much as in earlier days.

Coughing

addendeum: 14 Mar 2025

I cannot attribute the coughing directly to the meditation practice because I have had a persistent occasional bout of coughing for years now. It is most common at night when I am in bed.  It is a dry, ticklish kind of cough.

However lately I have noticed that the cough seems to "deliberately" come up and get dry and ticklish during some meditations.

I think I am not coughing as much since I started the meditation  practice but am not sure as it can come up out of nowhere (no where???)

I would like to know what the cough and all the other symptoms are all about.
