A Matter of Intelligence

What is your IQ (Intelligence Quotient)? Does it really matter? To whom? And how accurate a means of measure is it of anything?

Dr. Wayne Dyer describes two hilarious but meaningful personal experiences:

Once he was invited to take an intelligence examination for reading skills. Presumably unbeknownst to the examiners, the paragraphs he was meant to be tested on came from his very own book, "Your Erroneous Zones". Well, despite that headstart, Dr. Dyer did not make a perfect score. In fact he got one question (out of 5) completely wrong and hence ended up with only 80%. What was the question he failed so miserably? To identify the "the intent of the author"! So much for the validity of that 'intelligence'test!

While still a college student, Dr. Dyer (well, he was just Wayne then) took an examination on poetry where he received pretty dismal grades. He was informed by his instructor that his interpretation of the poem was incorrect. Wayne subsequently wrote to the poet himself with a copy of his interpretation. Not only did the poet totally agree with his interpretation but praised him for having the soul of a poet.

Wayne, with certainty that he could get his grades raised now that he had definite proof of the correctness of his interpretation, approached his instructor. But ... hah! No luck. And the reason given by the instructor?
"Sometimes poets don't really know how to interpret their own poems."
What cheek! Still it goes to beget the question .... is the 'intelligence' label we have placed on ourselves &/or others really so valid?
