The importance of Beliefs and how they affect our lives, consciously or unconsciously.

Belief Chain

aka "Sleight of Mouth"

When would you use this?

  • Good for changing states.
  • If you can identify POSITIVE INTENT, that would already outframe original limiting belief.

Types of Causes

When a person has a belief in the structure of "x causes y" in explaining an undesirable present state they have/are in, this belief about cause can be viewed as various types of causes. And it will give you a better indication as to which level of intervention will work best for the person.

Visualisation: Dr. Carl Simonton

In 1971, Dr. O. Carl Simonton, a radiologist at the University of Texas met a 61-year old patient who had throat cancer that had progressed so far that the man could hardly swallow and he only weighed 98 pounds. His prognosis was very poor with only a 5% of surviving 5 years after treatment. In any case, the patient was so weak that it seemed highly unlikely that he would respond well to radiation, the standard therapy for his condition.

Cancer Survivors

in

A survey was done on a hundred cancer survivors. These patients had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and 10-12 years later, they were still alive and well.

The survey found that the survivors had not had similar therapies. They had vastly varying therapies, ranging from traditional chemotherapy and radiation, to alternative therapies, religion, and psychology therapy.

The only common element in All of them was that each one of them had believed that what they were doing was going to work for them.

The power of beliefs!

I am a Corpse

in
There once was a patient who claimed he was a corpse. Nothing that numerous psychiatrists did could convince him otherwise. The patient would neither work nor eat. He just sat there claiming he was a corpse.

Belief & Logic

Beliefs do not necessarily conform to logic. [see Story: "I am a Corpse"]

In fact, they are notoriously contrary to "pure logic". And they have tremendous power. When people believe in something strongly enough, they are willing to do just about anything for their beliefs, including giving up their lives or facing incredible odds for the sake of their deeply held beliefs.
