ENERGY

Articles, concepts, and exercises using the Energy field for self-development, healing, and general wellness.

The study of energy has been known for over 5,000 years - most notably in China and India. The life force or energy that surrounds and is in all things is called the universal energy field (UEF). The life energy that is associated with human beings is known, among other names, as human energy field (HEF) or human aura. See Energy by any other name for a brief discourse on the various names for energy.

Healing energy is something we all know and use even without knowing it. That is because it really is and should be a natural part of our being. When your hurt a part of yourself and you instinctively cover it with you hands; when a child runs to his mother with a hurt thumb and the mother kisses it; when you rub your eyes when they are feeling tired ... these are all examples of us unconsciously but instinctively using our natural healing energies.

When you touch someone with love and when you are indifferent, there is a different flow of energy. That is why you can "feel" the difference when you go to a practitioner (like chiropractor, masseuse) who is indifferent or distracted when they are treating you.

Check some of the energy exercises you can employ for yourself and/or for others. Do it with intent and caring because it will make a difference to the way the other person feels, to yourself as well, and most assuredly, to the healing process.

Exercises

Cross Crawl

Symptoms that may be helped by Cross Crawling

  • feeling worse rather than better after exercising
  • physically or mentally exhausted for no apparent reason
  • loss of normal levels of motivation

Uses

  • helps you better access and utilise your brain's full capacity
as the Left hemisphere of the brain governs the Right side of the body and the Right hemisphere of the brain governs the Left side of the body
  • improves thinking
  • improves body's ability to heal

Exercise: Cross Crawl

  1. K-27 points Massage the K-27 points (15-20 seconds).
  2. Cross Crawl - march in place, lifting opposite arms and legs simultaneously.
    Breathe deeply.Cross Crawl 60 seconds.

HAVING DIFFICULTIES?

If you cannot easily coordinate your arms & legs, or if just starting exhausts you - then your energies may be running in a homolateral state. Do the following to get your energies crossing properly.
  1. March in place, lifting right arm with right leg. Same with the left. 12x.
  2. Cross Crawl Begin crossing by touching right hand to opposite knee while marching. Same with left hand and right knee. 12x.
  3. Repeat the above pattern twice, ending with 20 crosses (from step 2).

Energy to Revitalize (solar plexus)

This is a simple and useful exercise in re-vitalizing yourself when tired or feeling strained.
  1. Lie down. Imagine a warm, pleasant sun in your solar plexus (stomach area or more specifically, area between your navel and bottom of sternum).
  2. Do this for a while and you will start feeling warm and relaxed. You may even notice your breathing slowing down.
  3. (optional) To bring a level of spirituality into this, remember again a time when you knew God (whatever you conceive him to be) existed. When you were free of doubts and secure in the unquestioned knowledge of a higher power.
Allow yourself to easily float into that experience, lying peacefully in the secure arms of the Universe.
This exercise helps reverse your low energies and puts you into a healing state.

Hands - Feeling Energy

Exercise

This helps to sentisize your hands to the feeling of energy. hand energy
  1. Rub your hands together briskly for about a minute.
  2. Stop rubbing. Hold your hands about 2 inches apart. You should be able to feel the sensations between your hands.
  3. Move your hands towards & away from each other and notice the varying sensations.

K-27 Points

K-27 points are the 27th acupuncture points of the kidney meridian.

K-27 points are for energising, extending energy, & aligning meridians.

When you are getting tired, the energy flow in one or more meridians may reverse their flow making you feel even more tired. This is your body's way of informing you to rest. However there may be times when you need to carry on (e.g. when you are having to drive). The K-27 points gives you some control over this by helping you extend your energy limits. The K-27 can be stimulated to send a signal to your brain telling it to correct the flow of your energy along the meridains.

Technique: Finding and Stimulating K-27

Finding K-27

  1. Place your fingers on your collar bone (clavicle) with your fingers.
  2. With your fingers, follow your clavicle inwards till you reach the 'corner' of your clavicle, near your sternum.
  3. Then drop slightly down & out to the indent just below the clavicle. This is K-27.

Stimulating K-27

  1. Locate your K-27 points. K-27 points
  2. Massage K-27 in rotating motion with thumbs or fingers for 15-20 secs. You can do it simultaneously or separately.
  3. To Enhance the effect:
hook middle finger of one hand onto your belly button & pull upward while massaging one/both of the K-27s.

  4. Follow-up:
it is valuable to follow up with the Cross-Crawl technique.

A Brief History of Reality

The "reality" of most people's world and their identity of self is based on an out-dated but once sound scientific concept. The most prevalent view is that we persist in seeing ourselves as solid objects despite the revolutionary scientific proofs in the latter years.

Late 17th and Early 18th Century Physics

The definition of the universe as being made up of solid objects was the result of the work by Sir Isaac Newton in the late 17th to early 18th century. In the 19th century, Newtonian physics was extended to viewing the universe as being composed of fundamental building blocks called atoms.

This is mainly where most people have halted in their concept of "objective" reality and the Newtonian physics have become the basis of their confident "scientific" rebuttal of anything beyond what we can see and touch.

Perhaps this is not surprising as Newtonian laws of motion explained so much and provided safety in the perception that the world was solid and largely unchanging.

Early 19th Century

In the early 19th century, the emergence of electromagnetic phenomenon could not be adequately explained by Newtonian physics and led to the scientific concept of "fields". A field was defined as a condition in space that had the potential of producing a force. Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell founded the concept of field and gave rise to the view that the universe was filled with fields that created interacting forces. This new scientific framework enabled us to begin to be able to explain how we could affect one another, even at a distance and via other means than through speech and sight.

1905

Albert Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity published in 1905 shattered all the principal concepts of Newtonian mechanics. According to the relativity theory, space and time were so interconnected that it formed the "space-time" continuum. And contrary to the causal effects in Newtonian physics, time was not an absolute nor linear!

As an example, he proved that two observers, each moving at different velocities relative to the occurrence of two events, might see the same two events in reverse order!

But because time and space as distinct and separate parcels are so basic to how we describe nature and our world, that we have not yet been able to integrate Einstein's theory of relativity into our personal lives. However we do get a sense of this theory as all of us have had the experience of time speeding up or slowing down so that our personal time actually varies according to the mood we are in or the experiences we are having. Our personal time is not measurable by a clock, which is a Newtonian device designed to measure linear time, as defined by Newtonian mechanics.

Another very important consequence of Einstein's work is that matter and energy are interchangeable. And it is now becoming more and more of an established fact that his theory is very true.

1920s

Just as Einstein postulated, the scientific world found themselves moving into the world of subatomic particles and Quantum physics. Max Planck discovered that energy of heat radiation did not appear as continuous waves but rather as discrete "energy packets" called quanta. And as science probes deeper and deeper into the foundations of our reality, the more they show that nature is not comprised of isolated "basic building blocks" as suggested by Newtonian physics. Physicists are showing in experiments after experiments that matter can be created from energy and can disappear into energy.

Today

According to the best scientific minds of our times, we now hear that the whole universe is made up of an interconnected and dynamic web of energy patterns. Even the "normal man on the street" is now at least giving lip-service to this revolutionary fact of the interconnectedness of us all in the form of energy. However, the message from the mystic through the ages is still mainly delegated into the bin of "hocus pocus" shennanigans. Which is a shame. Though the mystics did not employ the current sceintific terms of energy fields and quantum physics, their 5,000+ years of tradition and message are all consistent with the new "discoveries" by our most eminent scientists.

Higher Sense Perception

Higher Sense Perception

HSP or Higher Sense Perception is a termed coined by Barbara Ann Brennan and is now widely used and recognized by other practitioners. Even though Ms. Brennan herself says that HSP is similar to clairvoyance, in truth it is much more than that. Clairvoyance, which stands for "clear vision", is about the ability to see beyond the range afforded by our physical eyes and beyond the range of what is accepted as normal vision. HSP is the ability to see, hear, smell, and touch that goes beyond the normal range of human senses.

How to Develop HSP

Barbara Brennan states that it is necessary to enter "expanded states of consciousness" to develop your Higher Sense Perception, something that everybody already has but is usually not developed. There are many ways to enter expanded states of consciousness:

It is not the activity that you do as much as where you direct your mind while engaging in those activities. To be even more accurate, it is where you direct your mind away from, that lies at the crux of being able to enter into a heightened mode of consciousness. As advocated by so many past and present masters, it is in the stilling of our frantic mind(less) thoughts and repetitious mental stories and entering the space of calm and silence, that we even get the very first glimpse of peace and an other-than-normal state of consciousness.

As Tolle in recent times has reminded us in his book "A New Earth" that in the development of an uncommon but essential awareness of the space of Now, so too is that in line with Barbara Ann Brennan when she says, "..developing Higher Sense Perception is a natural evolutionary step for the human race, leading us into the next stage of development ..".

What is HSP used for?

Higher Sense Perception can be a powerful tool in medicine, psychological counseling, and enhancing one's own life and development.

For those who have developed their Higher Sense Perceptions, they are often able to see the human energy field around a person - an energy field that surrounds and penetrates the physical body. HEF or Human Energy Field is also another term made popular by Barbara Ann Brennan. HEF is closely associated with a person's level of health. An unhealthy person will have an unbalance flow of energy and this energy can actually be seen as stagnated energy, typically appearing as darkened colours.

Conversely, a healthy person's energy field is seen to flow easily, in bright colours. Colours and forms of the perceived energy are very specific to each illness.

With the use of HSP, the gifted healer is not only able to "see" these types of energy flows but can often times perceived how most diseases are initiated in the energy field, and than over time and solidified by lifestyle, can become manifested in the physical world. And with HSP, as the healer can perceive how a disease got started, information on how the disease can be reversed is also obtained.

Meditation, Healing Energy, and Brain Waves

Meditation is a powerful tool for personal peace, health, and also for healing and spiritual awareness.

When you go into a relaxed state, your internal healing energies are naturally heightened. That is why rest is often recommended for recuperation. Your energy field also becomes more coherent.

In relaxed or meditation states, brain waves have been consistently recorded as slowing down. It will probably go into an alpha rhythm (approximately 8 Hz or cycles per second). This is also known to be a healing state. The brain waves can be measured by an electroencephalograph (EEG). A magnetic field detector can also be used and will show energy field (or human aura) to be pulsating at about 7.8 to 8 Hz.

UEF: Universal Energy Field

The Universal Energy Field (UEF), just like its subset, the Human Energy Field (HEF), has been observed, studied, and taught for thousands of years. They were called different names in different times, by different cultures and ancient teachings. Today, as it resurfaces and makes it way into a current growing consciousness, it still has different labels even though they are talking of the same miraculous phenomenon.

Some of the more well known modern labels for UEF are:

Apart from minor differences, those who write, talk, and teach about the Universal Energy Field are talking about the same phenomenon: an unending field of energy that not only surrounds and interpenetrates, permeates, and imbues all things and space of the universe but that makes up those very objects and spaces themselves.

However we are still struggling with the concept and language to definitively articulate on this energy field - hence the plethora of terms that abound. As I blogged in "Energy by any other name", there might be natural and even "comforting" reasons why there are so many names for the one same things. It is still a growing field of study that is not only undertaken by alternative healers and thinkers, mystical and esoteric schools, and people of the New Age, but also by a growing number of universities and research scientists around the world. Courses are being offered in "conventional" universities around the world and the very study of this all pervasive energy has sprouted new scientific theories, most well known among which is Quantum Physics (which is often referred to as the "New Science") which arose from the Quantum Theory.

Core Characteristics of Universal Energy Field

There are however core characteristics of the UEF which seems to be generally accepted as fact. The UEF:

Layers of the Universal Energy Field

The UEF have been studied by authors such as Rudolf Steiner, Madame Blavatsky, C.W. Leadbeater, Barbara Ann Brennan, Constance Rodriguez, and many others. They mention that the UEF is made up of regions which have been variously labeled as:

They all seem to concur that each of these levels have their own distinct vibrations and even colours. Constance Rodriguez in her book, "Gifts of the Soul" uses the term "Mystic Realms" to refer to all these various levels in the UEF. There seem to be 5 layers or levers that make up the UEF.

  1. elemental
  2. physical
  3. astral
  4. imaginal
  5. cosmic

The Human Energy Field (HEF) is the part of the UEF that is associated with the physical human body. It is the layers of energy field that surrounds and interpenetrates the living human form.

Energy by any other name

As you can read in article "UEF: Universal Life Energy", there is no just one term that is used consistently to label the field of study into energy. With the emerging and increasing research and study into energy by our modern day scientists, the terminology in fact has increased. So too with the simultaneous growing popular (re-)acceptance of this phenomenon, writers and speakers use interchangeable terms and phases while trying to describe probably the very same thing: Universal Energy Field, orgone, Unified Field, Universal Intelligence, quanta, and so on.

At times, this may seem unsatisfactory and even confusing, but maybe it is just natural. Perhaps the plethora of terms and labels is an indication that this field of knowledge has not reached maturity. General populace, healers, and scientists alike are struggling to come to terms with the concept of what really makes up the universe. It is a large and more encompassing "thing" than just the study of an atom or a particle or gravity.

Our language develops as an idea or concept grows into multiple forms of applicable, recognizable "physical" reality. For most of us in the world, snow is snow. For skiers, there are different grades of snow and they have terms to label each state which means very specific things to them. For the Eskimos whose very existence and lives depend on that very substance, they have 24 labels to describe snow, each with subtle differences that to most of us would not be obvious and might not even make sense.

And it was not so long ago that our modern, everyday terms would have been complete unknowns and jibba-jabber to our parents as they grew up. In the earlier part of the twentieth century, who would have known what"world wide web" meant (is it a big spider web that covers the earth?), or e-mail (Like in "Eek - there is mail"?) or to "google" (is it making googly eyes at someone?) or "blog" (is it a blob of something but longer?). But each of these names/labels/terms has become our everyday language as the application and knowledge of the underlying source matured.

And so too, as our knowledge of what HEF is and means, in abstract thought as well in personal meaning and verifiable experience, our terminology of this phenomenon will also mature to be more precise. As Barbara Ann Brennan says, "As more individuals become consciously aware of these creative experiences, I'm sure that we will add the words we need to communicate better about them." (Light Emerging, 1993, page 13)

This might be true notwithstanding the fact that the study and teachings of Energy fields goes back thousands of years. Perhaps it is like I said above, it is the expanding use and acceptance of a theory or law that makes the accompanying terms and labels mature into general recognizable terminology. It might be like the "100th monkey syndrome" so that when a concept/idea has spread to an optimum level, we will find ourselves having just one (or fewer) term to express the same thing.

Or perhaps we will always struggle with a one-term label for it. Just like we do with the concept (or reality) of God (or god). Each religion calls their godhead by a different name - though many, as I do, believe that they all point to the one same source. So in a sense, the religions have "divided" up One United Source into different names which acts as a "window" through which they can conceptualize and see (their) god. Or perhaps, it is because god or energy is so vast and unknowable that we as humans in our current state of evolution, cannot grasp the entirety and our varying names and definitions is but a reflection of that truth.
